Why the Name?

While traveling in India, you may come across a yogi wearing a string of beads, called japa malas, which have been used to assist devout Hindus or Buddhists in staying focused during prayerful meditation. The traditional japa mala is strung with 108 beads.

Among Eastern philosophers, 108 is a very auspicious number; it is a perfect 3-digit multiple of three, its components adding up to nine, which is three threes. And three, of course, is the number representing supreme balance, as anyone who has ever sat on a simple barstool can plainly see.

The number 3 also represents creative power and gestalt (when two things become more than the sum of their parts).

Studio 108 believes in balance: balance of form and function, balance of color, concept and creation, balance in all aspects of life. We do our very best to offer the highest quality product while respecting the balance that goes into good design.
